raw in june

it's june! finally!

the farm market is back in the park -- here, it's 2x a week, not just once! -- and all around me the organic & locally grown produce has dropped in price juuuust enough to say EATME

so. i eat.

all my life, warm weather has seen me eating primarily raw fruits & vegetables for breakfast, lunch and snacks-- i wonder if i can aim for raw dinners most of the week as well, or more strictly raw lunches (goodbye, bread? me? eh) just to see how that works out for me. i've read a bit about the benefits of eating raw in terms of digestion, metabolism and liver function-- i'm wondering if i won't see some difference in my metabolic panel if i aim for eating 50-60% raw for the bulk of the summer.

it's just an inquiry; i don't have any obligation to raw foods or any food movement in general. i'm not committing myself to a program or going vegan or even strictly vegetarian again (as strict as lacto-ovo can be considered, anyway)-- i just want to see what living up to this particular more-conscious eating goal is like for me inside my own body, and whether it has any positive impact on my health that is measurable. i have to have bloodwork done tomorrow anyway-- i think it might be interesting to go back at the end of the summer, repeat the same battery of tests and see if 90 days with this modification to my diet has any impact on my cholesterol, white cells & liver.

of course, there will be another variable in the mix: my running. june kicks off more serious running/racing for me. i'm supposed to be stepping up my running again at the same time, and while i know many athletes who are 75%-100% raw and who say their diet has improved their athletic performance, most agree it's good to not run until your body adjusts to raw-- taking about 3 months off from racing/intense training. that's not going to happen for me, so... we shall see what happens. i'll be happy if i simply avoid injury, ha.

i would like to keep something of a food/running journal to see how this all goes, but it might happen more on tumblr than on the crumbs.
